Gestalt Theory and visual communication.

Figure / Ground.“If you’ve ever wondered why some design approaches seem more coherent, connected or unified than others, it may be because the designer has used the Gestalt principles to help bring together their design elements.”

While studying cognitive psychology at CSU, I was introduced to Gestalt theory, which has useful applications for designers. Check out this Creative Bloq article for a quick introduction.
